THE FUTURE OF XC.
To create the fastest XC race rocket the world has ever seen, you've got to think a little differently. From its asymmetrically offset rear triangle and drivetrain to its new-school geometry and custom offset Lefty, every part of the F-Si was designed as a System, fully Integrated in the pure pursuit of speed.
F-Si CARBON IS:
ASYMMETRIC INTEGRATION (Ai) DRIVETRAIN
The heart of the F-Si’s System Integration is the Ai, asymmetrically offset rear triangle and drivetrain. The frame is designed around a rear wheel that is standard in every way except that the rim is centred between the hub flanges. While keeping the wheel in-line with the seat tube and centre line of the bike, the offset essentially pushes the rear triangle and drivetrain 6mm to the right. Cannondale match this with one of their Ai HollowGram spiders, which move the chainrings an equal 6mm to the right, balancing the system and maintaining perfect chain-line, shifting performance and Q-factor.
This elegantly simple approach - Ai - enables Cannondale to have their cake and eat it too. The extra space created by shifting the drivetrain outboard enables them to have:
STIFFER REAR WHEEL
By keeping the rim and tyre in line with the centreline of the bike, but shifting the hub and cogs 6mm to the right, Cannondale make the spoke angles more even on both sides, creating a stronger wheel that's up to 60% stiffer than a conventionally laced wheel, while using a standard rim and normal 135mm hub.
SUPER SHORT CHAINSTAYS
The Ai system allows for incredibly short chainstays (429mm -29 and 425mm - 27.5), which moves the rear wheel forward to be more under the rider, resulting in exceptional lateral stiffness and race-winning traction.
Ai HOLLOWGRAM SPIDER
The F-Si spider moves the chainrings out 6mm to match the rear triangle with no change in Q-factor. This enables the super short chainstays while providing ample mud clearance for the tyre and maintaining double and single ring compatibility.
When it comes to the way a bike handles, geometry is everything. The difference of just a few millimetres here or a half a degree there can significantly impact handling. With courses becoming ever more technical, steep and brutal, Cannondale knew they needed to rethink XC geometry completely. The result is F-Si - a bike that defines new-school XC handling and speed.
How Cannondale did it:
Super Short Chainstays – The F-Si leads the category with its super short (429mm) chain stays. Its short rear end makes it extremely agile in tight and technical terrain, especially when navigating switchbacks, both up and down. It also puts more of the rider weight over the rear wheel, dramatically increasing rear wheel traction on steep climbs. More agile, better traction and a laterally stiffer rear end thanks to the shorter chain stays – sounds like a recipe for taking serious time out of every part of the course.
Slack Head Angle with Custom Offset Leftys – With a progressive 69.5° head angle mated to the Lefty’s increased fork offsets (55mm for 29 and 50mm for 27.5), the nimble rear end is complemented by equally agile and capable steering. At high speeds, the added stability of the slack head angle enables the rider to attack rough terrain with confidence while in slower, tight, technical sections, the extra fork offset and resulting lack of “trail” keep the steering quick and nimble.
FIT-FOCUSED WHEEL DIAMETERS
To achieve the best possible fit for all riders, size small is designed around 27.5 wheels, while M thru XL get 29”.
SAVE 2 SEATPOST
The all-new SAVE seatpost has been redesigned to save almost 50 grams and deliver 20% more deflection. It has a more linear deflection curve, which means more comfort, especially for lighter riders, while maintaining strength for max loads.
Cannondale’s proprietary carbon construction method pairs ultra strong military armouring fibres with high strength resins and a tightly controlled network of high-modulus stiffening fibres to deliver ultra light frames with exceptional strength and ride-feel. Oh yeah, and lifetime warranties...
