Gates

Gates Carbon Drive has transformed bicycle drivetrains by offering a modern alternative to conventional chain systems. Developed by Gates Corporation, a global leader in power transmission technology, the Carbon Drive system combines advanced materials with precision engineering to deliver smooth, quiet, and highly durable performance.

Instead of a steel chain, Gates Carbon Drive uses a carbon fibre-reinforced belt paired with specially designed front and rear sprockets. The result is a drivetrain that requires no lubrication, resists corrosion, and stays significantly cleaner than a traditional chain. Riders benefit from quieter operation, reduced maintenance, and exceptional longevity, making it an ideal solution for year-round cycling.

Gates belt drives are widely used on commuter bikes, touring bikes, urban bikes, cargo bikes, and e-bikes, where reliability and minimal maintenance are key priorities. When paired with internal gear hubs such as Rohloff, Shimano Alfine, or Enviolo, the system creates an exceptionally dependable drivetrain capable of covering thousands of miles with very little routine maintenance.

The Carbon Drive system is engineered to deliver efficient power transfer while eliminating many of the common issues associated with chain-driven bikes, including rust, chain stretch, and oily clothing. This makes it particularly attractive for riders who use their bike daily or simply want a cleaner, more hassle-free riding experience.
